Tech Weekly live: Tech City Talks - Skills
Monday, 10 October 2011 from 18:30 to 19:30 (BST)
The first debate is Monday 10 October: Who Will Build the Future Digital Economy? The guests tackling this question, and discussing what’s missing from the UK’s education system, include David Willetts MP (Minister of State for Universities and Science) and Professor Jeff Magee (Principle of the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College, University of London). If one of the Tech City objectives is to produce the next Facebook or Google, how can our schools and universities develop the people with the right skills and the attitude to deliver this ambition?
Then, over the following three weeks, Tech Weekly will tackle key questions in the digital economy agenda - details and ticket sign up for these events will be available here soon. On Monday 17 October, we’re asking how the government intends to get the whole of the country online, and our access might be compromised by sharing the financial weight with private companies who have their own agendas. On Monday 24 October, we’re asking Eric Pickles (Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government) what government, investors and the people at the coalface should do to inspire innovation and to generate globally competitive enterprise within Tech City. Finally, on Monday 31 October, we’re asking how we should respond to the Hargreaves report on Intellectual Property. What should be the business model for creativity within the UK?
